Description Juergen Rose 2010-06-27 19:47:33 UTC
If I try to add a new printer

http://localhost:631/admin -> Add Printer

or if I want to modify an existing printer

http://localhost:631/printers/DYMO_LabelWriter_400 -> Modify Printer -> (http://localhost:631/admin/)

the website shows only a rotating symbol (hourglass) and "Looking for printers..." and nothing else happens. Cups is running with debug LogLevel,
In /var/log/cups/error_log I find:
...
D [27/Jun/2010:21:24:04 +0200] cupsdNetIFUpdate: "br0" = fe80::21a:92ff:fee0:2446%br0:631
D [27/Jun/2010:21:24:04 +0200] process_browse_data: Laserjet1300Grizzly@grizzly not found...
D [27/Jun/2010:21:24:34 +0200] process_browse_data: Hp1300GrizzlyGutenprint@grizzly not found...
D [27/Jun/2010:21:24:35 +0200] process_browse_data: Laserjet1300Grizzly@grizzly not found...

Printing at Laserjet1300Grizzly@grizzly and Hp1300GrizzlyGutenprint@grizzly works.

Reproducible: Always

This's the nearest I have found to my problem. if I use http://localhost:631 I get dumped back to the login screen,and all info is lost ,I looked up the .xsessionerrors ,which I will attach ,but this to me wasn't helpful.

this is happening on both machines x86 & x86_64, have rebuilt cups ghostscript foomatic-db-ppds & foomatic-filters-ppds .then run revdep-rebuild which reports no problems.

Comment 5 Juergen Rose 2010-09-23 10:11:24 UTC
I hit the problem again:

At the first attempt I had a ssh-session from "moose" to "lynx" and tried to add
a printer at lynx with:

rose@lynx:/home/rose/(9)$ epiphany http://localhost:631 &

http://localhost:631/admin -> Add Printer

I came until "Looking for printers...", I waited several minutes, no success.

I finished epiphany, tried once more, got the same result. Tried konqueror,

rose@lynx:/home/rose/(10)$ konqueror http://localhost:631

got:
The requested URL could not be retrieved
While trying to retrieve the URL: http://localhost:631/
 The following error was encountered:
 Access Denied.

Then I tried:

rose@lynx:/home/rose/(11) seamonkey http://localhost:631

I could succesfully add my new printer.

I also tried some minutes later at the console of lynx to add printer with firefox:

rose@lynx:/home/rose/(2) firefox http://localfox:631

I also had no problems. So the problems seems to be browser and connection dependent.
Comment 6 Geoff Madden 2010-09-23 11:41:57 UTC
I have another problem ,as well,in that any printing using konqueror,does not finish the page off, the printer just feeds the head to & fro but does not actually print anything,the cups log does not show any errors regarding the job.
When I shut down the machine when session finished,the page is ejected from the printer. On next startup ( especially if the printer is powered up) it promptly
restarts the print job and runs through the cycle all over again.
Do not have any hassles printing from firefox.
