Description Pieter Van den Abeele (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-11-02 15:48:42 UTC
for all non-root users on an unmodified ~x86 system. with everything up to date (3 Nov 2003).

My /etc/pam.d/passwd looks like this:

pvdabeel@research pam.d $ cat passwd
#%PAM-1.0

auth required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth

account required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth

password required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth

What do you do to produce this error ?
Comment 2 Pieter Van den Abeele (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-11-03 14:01:14 UTC
try to change password as a regular user
Comment 3 Martin Schlemmer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-11-03 15:25:13 UTC
Err, its actually sorda a known issue. Please try pam-0.77 found here:

  http://dev.gentoo.org/~woodchip/pam/

Up until now i think it was only for mips or sparc - cant remember.
(works fine here btw).

You do not use nptl and pam_userdb right ?

Comment 4 Pieter Van den Abeele (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-12-14 11:41:25 UTC
that is correct. Will try this new pam now
Comment 5 Pieter Van den Abeele (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-12-16 16:25:44 UTC
I have the same error with pam 0.77

I think this is related to the /etc/pam.d/passwd file. Are these settings ok?

pvdabeel@research pam.d $ cat passwd
#%PAM-1.0

auth required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth

account required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth

password required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth

Comment 7 osx porters gentoo-dev 2004-06-11 10:35:13 UTC
magically dissappeared.
Comment 8 Ralph Slooten 2004-11-18 22:42:58 UTC
I am getting this on 3 different gentoo machines now. It seems (apparently) to have something to do with cracklib.
