I have been using KDE 4.4.4 for a while now - since it was released in portage. The KDE ebuild for kde-base/kappfinder-4.4.4 disappeared after I synced last night, and I confirmed that it is still missing this morning. The only ebuild available is for 4.3.5, which tries to pull in the old 4.3.5 version of kdelibs too. Was this an accident, or was it intentional? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: emerge --sync emerge -pvt =kde-base/kappfinder-4.4.4
kappfinder has been broken for quite some time and is discontinued upstream in kde-4.5. The removal was intentional.
Reading the ChangeLog usually helps, 21 Jun 2010; Maciej Mrozowski <reavertm@gentoo.org> -kappfinder-4.4.4.ebuild: Obsolete, generates non XDG-compliant .desktop files and removed upstream as of KDE SC 4.5 And so does actually searching bugzilla before opening bugs, http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=296862#c9
@Andreas -- Thanks! @Samuli -- FWIW, I did search for bugs related to kappfinder, but I did not find anything related to kappfinder-4.4.4. And, I am sorry, but I did not know portage had a changelog. Where did you find that snippet? I would have checked there, if I had known. Thanks!

@Andreas (via private email) and @Gef, thanks for the tip! I will remember and use next time. Thanks!
