LinPopUp (I used version 2.0.2, but it's not exclusive to that version) does not use the correct commandline when using smbclient to send messages, if Samba has been upgraded to version 3.  Details, and a patch to fix this problem, can be found at:

I have tried the patch, and it works fine for me.

Maybe Gentoo should patch the build until it gets incorporated into the next release?
