You might want to consider adding something like
vpx? ( media-plugins/gst-plugins-vp8 )

Though I have a more general problem: This seems to depend on hal and hal is designated to die. Grepping through the readme, this can probably be replaced by python-gudev, we don't have an ebuild yet.

I'm not really sure how to handle this. I guess the best way would be to leave a message for people to supply flags to gst-plugins-meta.

Duplicating them in arista package seems worth less.

Bumped to 0.9.5 but I python-gudev hasn't moved yet, so it's p.masked.

Left out the USE=vpx since it really belongs in the ever-elusive gstreamer metas. Besides, a vpx dep is not enough, you'll need to pull in ogg and webmmux as well.

python-gudev is in tree (thanks to mrfree), so 0.9.5 is at last available.
