Description Guido Winkelmann 2010-06-17 14:15:23 UTC
When emerging dev-libs/libpqxx-2.6.9, configure fails with the messages:

checking for pg_config... no
configure: error:
PostgreSQL configuration script pg_config not found. Make sure this is in your
command path before configuring. Without it, the configure script has no way to
find the right location for the libpq library and its headers.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge -v1 '=dev-libs/libpqxx-2.6.9'

Actual Results:
Configure fails with the messages:

checking for pg_config... no
configure: error:
PostgreSQL configuration script pg_config not found. Make sure this is in your
command path before configuring. Without it, the configure script has no way to
find the right location for the libpq library and its headers.

Expected Results:
The package should be successfully configured, built and installed

This is probably related to Bug 324465

Comment 1 Rafał Mużyło 2010-06-17 17:16:23 UTC
Did you check 'eselect postgresql' and tried reemerging
postgresql-base already ?
Comment 2 Michael Weber (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-06-18 08:22:43 UTC
`/usr/bin/pg_config` is a symlink to `/usr/lib64/eselect-postgresql/binwrapper` (from app-admin/eselect-postgresql), which is a wrapper tat starts stuff related to `/etc/eselect/postgresql/active` (symlink to `/etc/eselect/postgresql/slots/8.3` over here).

Are these links ok? What's the output of `/usr/bin/pg_config`? See bottom for example output.

Michael

Michael:

That symlink does not exist for me.

I will try re-emerging postgresql-base next.
Comment 4 Guido Winkelmann 2010-06-18 09:05:54 UTC
After re-emerging dev-db/poastgresql-base, everything works again
