Description Guido Winkelmann 2010-06-17 14:08:23 UTC
During a recent world upgrade, libpq was automaticalle uninstalled and replaced by postgresql-base-8.4. Since then, using libpq does not work properly for me anymore.

I tried selecting this specific postgresql version with eselect, but that gave me errors:

# eselect postgresql set 8.4
!!! Warning: No file '/usr/include/postgresql-8.4/libpq-fe.h' to symlink
!!! Warning: No file '/usr/include/postgresql-8.4/libpq' to symlink
!!! Warning: No file '/usr/include/postgresql-8.4/postgres_ext.h' to symlink

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge '=dev-db/postgresql-base-8.4.2-r1'
2. eselect postgresql set 8.4

Actual Results:
!!! Warning: No file '/usr/include/postgresql-8.4/libpq-fe.h' to symlink
!!! Warning: No file '/usr/include/postgresql-8.4/libpq' to symlink
!!! Warning: No file '/usr/include/postgresql-8.4/postgres_ext.h' to symlink

Expected Results:
Version 8.4 of libpq should be made available system wide with no errors.

Note, i do not have postgresql-server installed on this machine.

Try reemerging postgresql-base - IIRC the order of merge/unmerge
in libpq -> postgresql-base migration is not quite correct,
leading to unmerge of the new files.

That is correct. postgresql-base-8.4.4-r1 properly handles things. So this is fixed, just waiting for stable.

Sorry, 8.4.4-r2 is the one to go for.

Re-emerging fixes the problem.
