Description hal 2010-06-16 10:53:10 UTC
accidentially i recognized fbsplashd segfaulting in dmesg. tbh i don't recognize any misbehaviour of splashutils at all. everything seems to work fine.

error msg:
[   16.010505] fbsplashd.stati[1329]: segfault at fffffff2 ip 08049729 sp b60f41c0 error 4 in fbsplashctl[8048000+1a5000]

Does this happen at every boot or was it a one time thing? Could you please also post the contents of /proc/cmdline?

it used to happen on every boot for a couple of weeks. right now it seems to be gone. there were a couple of updates of several packages during that time, e.g. 2.6.34-r1.

cat /proc/cmdline
BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-2.6.34-gentoo-r1 root=/dev/sda2 ro quiet video=uvesafb:ywrap,mtrr:3,1280x720-32 splash=silent,theme:xbmc-confluence-shiny console=tty1 fastboot loglevel=0 usbcore.autosuspend=1 acpi_enforce_resources=lax

Let's close this bug as NEEDINFO if there is no way to reproduce the problem then. If you ever run into it again, feel free to add some comments here. I will then reopen the bug and we can try to investigate this further.
