We here at Clarkson (and the Clarkson Open Source Institute [cosi.clarkson.edu]) have set up a Gentoo Mirror we would like to be official. Gentoo Mirror: http://mirror.clarkson.edu/pub/distributions/gentoo Portage Rsync: rsync://mirror.clarkson.edu/gentoo-portage We have 30 connections open for the Mirror itself while 35 connections available for rsync. We're running off a 45mbit connection, which will be upgraded sometime in January. The system running the mirror is an old Sparc 64 Ultra60 with both a 144 gig and 75 gig raid attatched. The 75 gig is exclusively for Gentoo. We use Gentoo in our local computer lab, so a local mirror makes sense. We wanted to give back and also make it public. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: See above. Actual Results: See above. Expected Results: See above. We've tested the mirror internally with our lab and our personal machines and found no problems. Everything is synching as requested -- portage every 30 mins at :00 and :30, and everything else every 4 hours starting at midnight. Let me know if there are any configuration/etc. problems that need to be worked out. Thanks again for a great distro!
I'm sending you some instructions on accessing our private distfiles mirror. Please update your scripts to point to this mirror. For the portage mirror, we may or may not be able to add another. We are close to the maximum for the .us rotation. We'll try it and see what happens. I've added 128.153.144.19 to the access list for rsync1.us.gentoo.org. You should be able to sync with rsync1.us within 30 minutes. Please update your rsync cron jobs to point to rsync1.us.gentoo.org and post back here when you've done so. I'll monitor the server for a couple days to make sure things are working fine. Thanks.
The distfiles scripts are changed and working. I am, however, having a problem with the rsync mirror. The machine we're using to host the mirror has multiple IP addresses -- the IP for mirror.clarkson.edu is 128.153.144.19, but the internal IP it uses when accessing the outside world is 128.153.144.22. I don't know of a way to force it to use a particular IP when accessing the 'net. If you do, let me know. Otherwise, I guess you'll have to add the .22 address instead.
Switched from .19 to .22
Thanks! It's up and working. Which .us mirror are we?
None just yet. I'll monitor it for a couple days just to make sure there aren't any problems.
The good news is, there's room in the .us rotation for at least one more mirror. The bad news is, I've spotted some problems with a few syncs. All times in UTC, parenthesis indicate the expected time. Are you noticing any problems around then? Checked (UTC) Timestamp (Expected) ========================================================== 06:20:13 Mon, 03 Nov 2003 05:51:00 +0000 OK 06:53:20 timestamp missing (06:20) 07:23:18 timestamp missing (06:50) 07:50:11 Mon, 03 Nov 2003 06:20:00 +0000 (07:20) 19:50:11 Mon, 03 Nov 2003 18:50:01 +0000 (19:20)
I've checked out the logs for both distfiles and portage, and don't see any errors with the rsyncs. Nothing that rsync says is broken, anyway. How is it looking now?
There have been a few misses here and there, but the rsync1.us cluster has also had some problems. I'm going to add this to the .us rotation and see how things go. This will be rsync10.us.gentoo.org. Please update the motd file to include that information. Also, I've subscribed <chavoumd@clarkson.edu> to our gentoo-mirrors mailing list (low volume). This list is used to discuss mirror-related issues. Thanks for supporting Gentoo.
Thanks again for all your help!
Looks OK. Closing.
