There is currently a bug in firefox upstream where the "open with" dialog box will not appear for application links being sent as application/octet-stream. Instead of dropping back to examining the file extension and using the appropriate helper application, it simply defaults to what it is supposed to do for octet-streams and only provide a "save as" or "cancel" dialog box. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.visit https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=327323 and click on "testdownload" link in the attachements (or direct link: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=334071) Actual Results: A "save or cancel" dialog box pops up. Expected Results: A "open with application" box should appear instead. The bug at mozilla is located here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=327323 Mozilla has acknowledged it is a problem (since 2006!) and will be fixed but that scheduled launch will be for mozilla 1.9.3, which is firefox 3.7. I use zimbra a lot here at work and this bug surfaces often with email attachments, its very annoying. The rest of the machines in my company are running non-gentoo systems where I have compiled firefox 3.6.3 myself using two patches I created (read below) that have fixed this issue and have been running solid for several months now. I realize this is an upstream bug that has already been "fixed" but its release date is in my opinion unacceptably too far away. I think many gentoo users would benefit and appreciate an intermediate fix in the meantime. This has been resolved upstream as of firefox version 3.6.11 and xulrunner 1.9.11.
