i can verify same error on several different types of machines... this reminds me of a bug in a previous version of subversion where it wasn't finding the appropriate libapr from apache. can't find the old bug to verify though, anyone remember?

Please unmerge apache2, remerge it (you should update anyway because of a security issue). Then try merging subversion again.
seems to solve the problem on at least two of the boxes, will try the other later today and chime in if the apache upgrade doesn't help.
