when I do "man 5 cvs", I get the manpage of the portage cvs eclass instead of the cvs manpage.

hrm ... one option is to call all the eclass manpages '<eclass name>.eclass.5'
... that way it'd be `man cvs.eclass` ...

i dont like that though cause of the extra typing ... perhaps we dont have
a choice though ?

that's a *way* better solution! I like it! I think it's the only good solution
available.
