current from portage:
libpng-1.2.43-r2.ebuild:13:SLOT="0"
libpng-1.2.43-r3.ebuild:15:SLOT="1.2"
libpng-1.4.2.ebuild:13:SLOT="0"

what wrong? confused me
should we packages 1.4.2  to SLOT 1.4, then leave libpng-1.2.43-r3 as 0
most packages are using 1.2

nothing wrong, the -r3 is a special version designed to be co-installed with libpng 1.4 for binary-only applications and backwards compability
