Hi! I would like to apply for a new portage tree mirror via rsync (the first in Italy? :-> ). Mantainer: chr (at) die (dot) unipd (dot) it Christian
rsync1.it and rsync2.it alreayd exist, so it wouldn't be the first, but more are welcome. I've added 147.162.218.5 to the access list for rsync1.us.gentoo.org. You should be able to sync with rsync1.us within 30 minutes. Please update your rsync cron jobs to point to rsync1.us.gentoo.org and post back here when you've done so. We'll monitor the server for a couple days to make sure things are working fine. I noticed a "gentoo-sources" in the motd. Were you wanting to provide a source mirror as well? Thanks.
I've just made a pair of sync with rsync1.us.gentoo.org (portage-tree only). All went ok. I would like to provide a source mirror as well, but at now the first full sync is not finished yed. I expect it done in 5-6 hours. May I then resync with rsync1.us when I have a full source tree? Christian
After the source mirror finishes syncing, let me know, and I'll send some instructions on how to access the private distfiles mirror. Source isn't mirrored from rsync1.us.
Hi! Source mirror finished syncing yesterday, and I'm keeping it synced with a public mirror. Could I please try to access your private server? Thanks
The rsync server was doing fine until it appeared to stop syncing for a while. Have you had any problems? It is syncing again. Also, I'll send instructions for accessing the private mirror. Yes, my provider dns had a fault the night before Halloween (spirits? :-) ) Should I assign a static dns entry in my server (i.e.: /etc/hosts) to prevent such events? Does the address of rsync1.us change? (round-robin and so...) Note: I have set the source mirror as you stated. It will sync from the evening of October the 31st (19.00 UTC)
My provider had a dns fault again (*grunt*). So I set up another pair of alternative dns. If these are wrong also, the requests will be automatically forwarded to my country NIC. Hope this will stop the dns failure. Sorry for the inconvenience :-)
I just had this error, while connecting with sources server (only from 2003-11-01 11.00 UTC): rsync: read error: Connection reset by peer rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(177) I'm not using --compress, nor changed anything. Remote Server is up, port is open, but I have this error on each client request (also to get the motd banner).
> Should I assign a static dns entry in my server (i.e.: /etc/hosts) to prevent > such events? Does the address of rsync1.us change? (round-robin and so...) rsync1.us is a round-robin (currently 2 machines), so statis is probably not ideal. Hopefully the alternative DNS servers will work. I've refreshed the syncing log. So far, its been OK from "Sat, 01 Nov 2003 12:50:01 +0000" through "20:50:00 +0000". Regarding the connection failure with OSU, if it was just the one time, it may be a load issue on their end.
The portage mirror looks OK, so its ready to be added. This will be rsync3.it.gentoo.org. Please update the motd file to include that information. Let me know once you do and I'll add it to the rotation. I've subscribed <chr@die.unipd.it> to our gentoo-mirrors mailing list (low volume). This list is used to discuss mirror-related issues. How are things going with the source mirror?
Motd info changed. The source mirror has behaved well for the past four days. I think the 'new worker' should be ready... :-)
rsync3.it is now in the .it rotation. Is rsync the only protocol you want listed for the source mirror?
Thanks. The source mirror is accessible via rsync and http. Url is http://www.die.unipd.it/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo-sources/
Updated the website. Should show up shortly. Thanks for supporting Gentoo.
