I get the following message when trying to emerge sys-fs/udev-149: * udev-149 does not support Linux kernel before version 2.6.25! * For a reliable udev, use at least kernel 2.6.27 * * udev cannot be restarted after emerging, * as your running kernel version (2.6.32.1-rscloud) is too old. * You really need to use a newer kernel after a reboot! * Not restarting udevd, as your kernel is too old! * * If after the udev update removable devices or CD/DVD drives * stop working, try re-emerging HAL before filling a bug report Unless I'm misunderstanding, my kernel is newer than the minimum requirement. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
From all I understand, this message doesn't say that your kernel is not supported but that it is old and udev cannot be restarted on the fly due to that. Does udev works correctly when you reboot your machine?
That is correctly, however, there is a comparision error here. My kernel version is 2.6.32, which is newer than the required minimum of 2.6.27. 32 > 27.
Please post your `emerge --info' as well as the output of `eselect kernel list'.

This has been fixed in later versions. Use at least stable >=sys-fs/udev-171-r6 which has at least a bit "long time support" currently.
