I recently tried to update my kernel to gentoo-sources-2.6.34, but could not get the rt2860 "staging" wireless driver to load.  Until I found this correspondence "http://lkml.org/lkml/2010/5/18/203" which said the firmware had been moved into the linux-firmware package.

There is "NO" message in the 2.6.34 rt2860 staging driver help section stating this or telling the user to install the latest linux-firmware package.

After installing sys-kernel/linux-firmware-2010526 everything works okay.
