Trying to emerge konversation-1.3_beta1 on a stable kde-4.3 system yields:

/var/tmp/portage/net-irc/konversation-1.3_beta1/work/konversation-1.3-beta1/src/awaymanagerkidletime.cpp:17:23: error: kidletime.h: No such file or directory

kidletime.h only exists since kde-4.4 (see URL).

1. Unmask konversation-1.3_beta1
2. emerge

Missing KDE_MINIMAL=4.4 in the ebuild before inherit line.

Please note this was a mistake by konversation people. The was some cmake magic which (should) detect kde-4.3 or kde-4.4.
It is fixed in git now and kde-4.3 should be sufficient with beta2 or newer again. See http://www.gitorious.org/konversation/konversation/commit/fb86bf75fbb1ebcdfa73e501f4f8e025474a2dda
