Description Vladimir 2010-05-24 22:08:20 UTC
app-office/openoffice-3.2.0 shows some dialog windows incorrectly when they don't fit into the screen.
For example, when I press "Zoom" button, a dialog window titled "Zoom & View Layout" appears, but it is empty. Moreover, it doesn't show even its canvas. Instead the window has just a borders with a backgroud inside them. (see screenshot #1).
This works fine on my other machine with KDE3.5, 1024x768 (maybe a screen resolution matters) and refuses to work properly on my laptop with Xfce and 1280x800.

By the way, the "Insert sheet" dialog shows a similar behaviour.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start OpenOffice Calc in Xfce
2. Press "Zoom" button on the Calc's toolbox.
3. See the incorrectly displayed dialog window.
4. Try to resize this dialog window with mouse, for example.

Actual Results:
The dialog window doesn't show its real contents and cannot be used in such state. If I resize this window, I will see the contents (radio buttons, buttons, etc.), but all those components are disproportionate, but they can at least be used in such state.(see screenshot #2).

Expected Results:
Should show the dialog window correctly.

This screenshot demonstrates the view of Zoom dialog box after I had stretched it a bit to the left and to the top.

The same thing with OpenOffice-3.2.1.3.
For example, a "Insert sheet" dialog box (screenshot #3).

What GTK+ Theme and Engine are you using in Xfce4?

I'm not sure I understand you right, but I use "Xfce" theme from x11-themes/gtk-engines-xfce-2.6.0 package and the "Default" theme for window decorations (from xfce-base/xfwm4-4.6.2 package, again if I'm not mistaking).

Try with Xfce 4.8 (gtk-engines-2.8.0, xfwm4-4.8.0, etc). Reopen if the problem is still there.

I have checked it today. The problem still exists.

  Hello!
I have installed LibreOffice-3.3.0 several days ago and noticed that I didn't use the "gtk" USE flag for openoffice before. I wasn't actually sure about what did this flag mean, but I decided to try turning it on for the LibreOffice and it turned out that with this flag LibreOffice shows all the dialog windows correctly in Xfce.
Unfortunately, it isn't too easy for me to compile such heavy packages on my laptop, so I cannot try the "gtk" USE flag for OpenOffice-3.2.1 right now. Maybe, I'll try to build it on my home PC on the weekend to see if this actually is the cause of the problem.

Meanwhile - LibreOffice-3.3.0 with "gtk" USE flag works fine in Xfce-4.8.
Comment 9 Andreas Proschofsky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-07-29 13:03:58 UTC
Long story, short summary: When you use Xfce you really should have the gtk use flag set, nothing we can do here.
