The version included in portage is really old and it doesn't seem to work well with greek keyboard. Actually it almost always crashes :-/ It would be nice if 1.8.1 version was included.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge tuxtype
2.run tuxtype
3.select greek as language and try to start a game

Actual Results:  
crash

tuxtype 1.8.1 ebuild

Here's a candidate ebuild for tuxtype 1.8.1. Basically the source URI has changed, and I commented out the "fixup src paths" clause.

Works for me on x86.
