emerge lib-compat doesn't build libc.so.5 etc for ppc, just the c++ stuff.

Which version auf lib-compat? Is this bug still valid?
Comment 2 SteveC 2004-02-22 10:35:18 UTC
any version, and yes the bug is still valid. It builds on x86. Its bloody annoying, I had to buy the new version of mathematica (4.2 ppc) which isn't statically linked to .so.5

status of bug shouldn't be 'resolved' IMHO
Comment 3 David Holm (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-02-22 11:37:32 UTC
Actually, it doesn't build it at all. This is a binary package. Where do we find a libc.so.5 binary that works with mathematica?
Comment 4 SteveC 2004-02-22 12:43:45 UTC
I dunno where...

I remember seeing some libc mailing list report that all support for libc5 had been dropped apart from x86 but can only find <a href="http://lists.debian.org/debian-68k/2001/debian-68k-200103/msg00128.html">this</a>
This is reflected by ther only being a <a href="http://packages.debian.org/stable/oldlibs/libc5">i386 debian package</a>...

libc5 is no longer needed for commercial applications.

(and mathematica 5 is out ! :-) )
