Description Vladimir 2010-05-21 00:17:00 UTC
x11-base/nouveau-drm-20100316 doesn't build against the new 2.6.34 kernel.
I must say that I had successfully built x11-base/nouveau-drm-20100316 once before kernel upgrade from gentoo-sources-2.6.33-r2 to gentoo-sources-2.6.34. Although this driver didn't work for me with that kernel too. But the errors are different.

Now it gives some errors like this, for example:
> ...nouveau_backlight.c:99: error: too few arguments to function 'backlight_device_register'

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge gentoo-sources-2.6.34
2. emerge x11-base/nouveau-drm-20100316

Actual Results:
Doesn't build.

Expected Results:
Should build successfully.

x11-base/nouveau-drm-20100316 build.log

Here is a complete build log for x11-base/nouveau-drm-20100316 tried to be built against 2.6.34 kernel.
Comment 2 Chí-Thanh Christopher Nguyễn gentoo-dev 2010-05-21 00:31:18 UTC
The drm in kernel 2.6.34 is newer than nouveau-drm-20100316. For now you are best advised to use in-kernel nouveau.
I will consider adding a new nouveau-drm snapshot though, depending on what improvements are added to the nouveau kernel.

I have seen a message while emerging x11-drivers/xf86-video-nouveau package about in-kernel nouvear DRM incompatibility with libdrm. Like this:

"Nouveau DRM in kernel 2.6.33 is API incompatible to
>=x11-libs/libdrm-2.4.18, please use x11-base/nouveau-drm
instead."

Is it allright with the new 2.6.34 kernel?
Comment 4 Chí-Thanh Christopher Nguyễn gentoo-dev 2010-05-21 07:33:37 UTC
Yes, kernel 2.6.34 will work with libdrm-2.4.20
Comment 5 Chí-Thanh Christopher Nguyễn gentoo-dev 2010-05-21 12:16:33 UTC
Fixed in CVS.
