Description Richard 2010-05-17 21:45:00 UTC
revdep-rebuild detects broken dynamic links from sci-libs/libgeotiff-1.3.0_rc2-r1. Reinstalling the package does not help.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge =sci-libs/libgeotiff-1.3.0_rc2-r1
2. revdep-rebuild --library='libgeotiff.so.*' -- --ask --keep-going --jobs

Seems like you're misinterpreting the result of

  revdep-rebuild --library

a bit.
When you're using the --library switch, revdep-rebuild will find every package that links against the given lib. This is no indication that the linking is broken. If you want to look for broken dynamic linkings, don't use the --library switch.
Are there still results concerning the sci-libs/libgeotiff package when you run like this?

  revdep-rebuild -i
Comment 2 Richard 2010-05-18 14:27:00 UTC
The package gives the following warning after building it, which is why I was running revdep-rebuild --library='libgeotiff.so.*'.

 * You should rebuild any packages built against libgeotiff by running:
 * # revdep-rebuild --library='libgeotiff.so.*'
 * or using preserved-rebuild features of portage-2.2:
 * # emerge @preserved-rebuild

Anyway, I did a regular revdep-rebuild and it found that sci-libs/gdal had to be rebuilt, but that is not the issue I thought I had when I filed this bug. Perhaps the ebuild's warnings should be amended so that less informed users such as myself do not run into the circular revdep-rebuild runs that I encountered when listening to it.
