When upgrading to xorg-server-1.8.1 I got the following configure error:

checking the doxygen version... 1.5.8
configure: error: doxygen version 1.5.8 found, but 1.6.1 needed

(Note that I have the 'doc' USE-flag enabled. Disabling it does not fix the problem.)

Unmasking doxygen and upgrading from the stable to the unstable doxygen-1.6.3 fixed the problem.

I cannot reproduce this problem with doxygen-1.5.9 being isntalled _and_ the doc USE flag being disabled.
So I assume this is really only a problem with doc USE flag being enabled.

I ran into the same issue.  Didn't test with the DOC flag disabled though.
