Description William Throwe 2010-05-16 01:45:37 UTC
Since upgrading libpng, wesnoth refuses to start with a lot of errors about png files. A sample of the errors:

20100515 21:17:24 error gui/draw: Image: 'dialogs/translucent65-border-botleft.png'not found and won't be drawn.
20100515 21:17:24 error display: could not open image 'dialogs/translucent65-border-left.png'
20100515 21:17:24 error gui/draw: Image: 'dialogs/translucent65-border-left.png'not found and won't be drawn.
20100515 21:17:24 error gui/draw: Image: 'dialogs/translucent65-background.png'not found and won't be drawn.

Finally it dies with:

20100515 21:17:24 error display: could not open image 'misc/logo.png'
20100515 21:17:24 error display: loadscreen: Failed to load the logo
null neutral surface...

null neutral surface...
20100515 21:17:26 error display: could not open image 'maps/wesnoth.png'
20100515 21:17:26 error display: Could not find title image
20100515 21:17:26 error display: Could not find game logo
20100515 21:17:26 error display: error initializing button!
Could not create button: Image could not be found

revdep-rebuild returns cleanly and remerging wesnoth does not help.

Reproducible: Always

On a guess I tried rebuilding sdl-image, which fixed the problem. However, there was no indication that sdl-image was broken except that wesnoth wouldn't start, so I still think there's a bug somewhere here, although not in wesnoth.
Comment 2 pierinz 2010-05-17 20:40:36 UTC
I have this problem, too. Emerging sdl-image and libsdl fixed the problem.

I'm not sure if there's anything we need to do here...
but assigning for games@ to look at.

You were using the old copy of the ebuild. It should just work now.

But I *have* re-emerged libsdl and sdl-image. Some things started to work (e.g., widelands). But wesnoth still does not work :-(

that was all the workable info posted on the dupe, the rest goes "...i'm using kde-3.5 which is unsupported from kde-sunset overlay, and it's turns up as black screen".
come on :) you have to do better than that, do some digging what/where/when fails
