It was as-needed issue and now is fixed in tree:

barry-0.16.ebuild.diff

    econf \
        $(use_with boost boost =/usr/include) \
        $(use_enable gui) \
        $(use_with gui libtar =/usr/lib) \
        $(use_with gui libz =/usr/lib) \
        $(use_enable opensync opensync-plugin)

How did this ever work? There shouldn't be an = before the third argument to use_with/enable. It's added automatically. You also don't need the libz path, it works fine without it. --with-libtar appears to be broken; without a path it adds -Lyes/lib to the link command, and with /usr/lib it adds -L/usr/lib/lib. --with-libtar=/usr seems to do the "right" thing. Finally, the flag --with-boost doesn't exist. It's --enable-boost. There's --with-boost-include and --with-boost-lib but neither is necessary.
Comment 5 Ryan Hill (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-05-20 04:52:45 UTC
There is still an issue with USE="opensync". configure in the opensync-plugin directory gives this error:

./configure: line 15802: syntax error near unexpected token `-fvisibility=hidden,'
./configure: line 15802: `AX_C_CHECK_FLAG(-fvisibility=hidden, , ,'
configure: error: ./configure failed for opensync-plugin

It looks like a latent bug that got uncovered by the recent addition eautoreconf (the shipped configure doesn't match configure.ac). I see a couple mentions about it on the web but don't have time to investigate right now.

this does look crazy.

vostorga: did this compile for you at some point?

the ebuild definately looks broken from src_compile and below. no question about that. weird thing is, when I tested this for forced asneeded and gcc-4.5 it compiled and installed fine. see [1]

[1] http://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/app-pda/barry/barry-0.16.ebuild?r1=1.4&r2=1.5

so those ='s where there even before...
Comment 8 Thilo Bangert (RETIRED) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-05-26 08:57:39 UTC
suominen: it builds fine without any USE flags turned on - maybe thats why it worked for you?!

i've applied the patch - thanks ryan!

leaves the opensync issue...

I'm able to build barry with USE="opensync" if I replace 'eautoreconf' with 'AT_M4DIR="${S}/m4" eautoreconf' in the src_unpack portion of the ebuild. I'm not sure why the configure in the opensync-plugin directory can't find the macros under ${S}/m4?
Comment 10 Ryan Hill (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-10-03 04:30:13 UTC
After making that change I still get this error configuring in ${S}/gui when USE="gui opensync":

checking for BARRY... no
configure: error: Package requirements (libbarry-0 libusb) were not met:

No package 'libbarry-0' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables BARRY_CFLAGS
and BARRY_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.
configure: error: ./configure failed for gui
Comment 11 Ryan Hill (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-10-03 04:34:52 UTC
and without USE="gui" I still get the same error in ${S}/opensync-plugin...
Comment 12 Ryan Hill (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-10-03 05:19:45 UTC
Rather than attempt to further untangle this godawful mess I'm just seding the --as-needed fix directly into Makefile.in and dropping eautoreconf altogether.

While I was in there I cleaned up the ebuild a bit and ported it to EAPI 3. If I broke anything please assign the bugs to me.
