What happened to these packages? app-antivirus/f-prot and app-antivirus/bitdefender-console simply disappeared from the portage tree.
They got masked for security, with notification, then removed from Portage because they are vulnerable. You can still find the old ebuilds here, if you don't mind running vulnerable software, http://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/app-antivirus/f-prot/?hideattic=0 http://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/app-antivirus/bitdefender-console/?hideattic=0
Well, I didn't see any notification at all. But anyway, if you are referring to bug#233928, this is my own result downloading and running f-prot 6.3.3 from http://www.f-prot.com/download/trial_forms/linux-ws-tgz.html . ---BEGIN--- su -s /bin/sh -c '/opt/f-prot/fpscan --report /tmp/2008-snot.zip.bla' - nobody F-PROT Antivirus version 6.3.3.5015 (built: 2009-12-23T13-43-55) FRISK Software International (C) Copyright 1989-2009 Engine version: 4.5.1.85 Arguments: --report /tmp/2008-snot.zip.bla Virus signatures: 20100513050538fafa43f54f6fe3930aee3a9af33b9c (/opt/f-prot-6.0.3/antivir.def) [Error] <Scanning error> /tmp/2008-snot.zip.bla [Error] <I/O error> /tmp/2008-snot.zip.bla Results: Files: 1 Skipped files: 0 MBR/boot sectors checked: 0 Objects scanned: 28 Infected objects: 0 Files with errors: 2 Disinfected: 0 Running time: 00:01 ---END--- This, instead, is some malware which ClamAV doesn't still detects (and there are some which are about 1 month olds...) ---BEGIN--- F-PROT Antivirus version 6.3.3.5015 (built: 2009-12-23T13-43-55) FRISK Software International (C) Copyright 1989-2009 Engine version: 4.5.1.85 Arguments: --report 79504-Jesus.1.exe Contract.1.exe Instructions.1.exe Instructions.3.exe Instructions.4.exe Instructions.5.exe setup.1.exe Virus signatures: 20100513050538fafa43f54f6fe3930aee3a9af33b9c (/opt/f-prot-6.0.3/antivir.def) [Found possible virus] <W32/VBTrojan.Downloader.1D!Maximus> 79504-Jesus.1.exe [Found security risk] <W32/FakeAV.UE (exact)> Contract.1.exe [Found trojan] <W32/Trojan2.MGAA (exact)> Instructions.1.exe [Found trojan] <W32/Trojan3.BSD (exact)> Instructions.3.exe [Found trojan] <W32/Trojan2.MGAC (exact)> Instructions.4.exe [Found trojan] <W32/Trojan2.MGAC (exact)> Instructions.5.exe [Found trojan] <W32/Trojan3.BSR (exact)> setup.1.exe Results: Files: 7 Skipped files: 0 MBR/boot sectors checked: 0 Objects scanned: 10 Infected objects: 7 Files with errors: 0 Disinfected: 0 Running time: 00:01 ---END--- Regarding BDC, I see now BitDefender probably changed policy and, well, it after all wasn't that effective compared to f-prot: I'm not going to miss it that much.
