Description Disenchanted (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-10-24 10:48:02 UTC
development-sources-2.6.0_beta8 does not merge kernel source to
/usr/src/linux-2.6.0-test

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge development-sources
2.
3.

Actual Results:
its unpacked and all looks normal but there is no kernel source in /usr/src
no /usr/src/linux-2.6.0-test8 is created even on another users system
my linux-2.6.0-test8 already existed
i just emerge -C mine so i could test his problem and i had nothing but the
files emerge -C leaves behind after a seemingly successful merge

Expected Results:
to find kernel sources under /usr/src/linux-2.6.0-test8

Comment 2 Disenchanted (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-10-24 10:52:50 UTC
rm development-sources-2.6.0_beta8
cp development-sources-2.6.0_beta7 development-sources-2.6.0_beta8
emerge development-sources-2.6.0_beta8

works as expected its the ebuild with the alsa flag thats broken
Comment 3 John Mylchreest (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-10-24 11:06:39 UTC
has been clarified invalid.
Works after all :)
Comment 4 John Mylchreest (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-10-24 11:07:14 UTC
evbuild with the alsa flag thats broken?
can you explain more please.
Comment 5 Narada Sage 2003-10-24 11:10:33 UTC
Why does it merge to linux-2.6.0-test8-patchset-0.1 rather than linux-2.6.0-test8
as it did for me? Incidently alsa worked fine for me despite having alsa
use flag disabled when emerging dev-sources.
Comment 6 John Mylchreest (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-10-24 11:30:12 UTC
it mnerges to the patchset dir when the patchset is applied (check out the
ebuild sources) its technicall incorrect moerging it to a default directory
when it isnt what it claims to be.

Comment 7 Chuck Brewer 2003-10-24 16:06:34 UTC
I'd have rather seen it stay as 2.6.0-test8 myself, or go 2.6.0-test8-r1,
as patchset.xx.xy-blah blah blah, darn name getting as long as the patches,
but I don't care. I set GPV=0 and got what I wanted. Incidentally, I think
people were confused about the alsa thing, enabling or disabling made no
difference to the kernel, just that the people who have USE=alsa would get
the
kernel sources to provide the virtual alsa that kept alsa-driver from being
pulled in. Now theres no useflag, it sets virtual/alsa across the board.
Hope that doesnt cause problems...

dev-sources isnt part of x86-kernel, but I deal with this mostly, with latexer/lostlogic.

This bug was originally invalid, and is now closed.
