dev-libs/libdnet-1.11-r1 was built with the following:
USE="python"

To me it looks like the ebuild picks the wrong compiler.
Here the last lines when the error occurs:

There's a 'slight' difference between 'hangs' and 'stops with an error'.

First thing to test would be gcc-config, but that usually fails
much earlier. Next would be a rebuild of libtool.

However, I've got a simpler question - did you change CHOST/CBUILD
value in make.conf recently ?

Thanks for your response !!

OK sorry for the wrong report, you're right! It stops with an error.
Regarding the gcc-config, I believe you're right. I'd have seen problems earlier. This was ebuild 63 or so.

And yes, I changed the CHOST/CBUILD and also upgraded GCC.
I am just about to rebuild libtool, but I believe this isn't the problem.
This was done through the GCC update and part of the CHOST change manual...

I'll give it a try afterwards and update you on the results.

Thanks, Linus
Comment 4 Linus 2010-05-10 17:05:31 UTC
OK I've rebuild libtool and emerged libdnet again.
The problem remains.

However I still believe my CPU type is mis-detected and therefore an older GCC is picked. (is that possible?)
For some reason the i486-pc-linux-gnu-gcc is called instead of the i586-pc-linux-gnu-gcc. Full details below

My gcc-config clearly shows only one active GCC profile (I removed the other)

wolke ~ # gcc-config -l
 [1] i586-pc-linux-gnu-4.4.3 *
wolke ~ #

Looks like you changed your CHOST variable. Please read the referenced document to figure out what step you missed.
