Actually there is a file called /usr/share/doc/${PVR}/html/index.html. I guess qeegie is either not aware of gentoo revisions or the beta versions look in geeqie-1.0 but the docs are under geeqie-1.0beta2. Which version of qeegie are you using and what does "equery f media-gfx/geeqie" give.

Hm, there is the /usr/share/doc/geeqie-1.0/html directory but without contents. I am pretty sure I have these files installed but I can not check as I currently have no access to my gentoo machines. Portagefilelist [1] does list the html files so they must be installed for some people. If you want to participate "emerge pfl" with USE="network-cron" This way all packages you have installed will be incrementally sent to the database once a week. There is also e-file installed with it. This is only true for geeqie-1.0. I got the documentation without having app-text/gnome-doc-utils installed with geeqie-1.0_beta2.
Thanks for digging in this (and bugreport) :) I've added 1.0-r1 to portage, with a doc USE-flag bringing gnome-doc-utils in.
