Description Richard 2010-05-06 11:24:32 UTC
The build process depends on 32-bit libraries. As far as I can tell, SML/NJ is available for sparc processors, which are 64-bit, so requiring 32-bit libraries on amd64 systems should be unnecessary.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run emerge smlnj
2. Watch it fail

Hi Richard,

it's been a while since I really looked, but AFAIU building smlnj relies on a boot.ARCH.tgz file being available for your ARCH. ATM there are four only: boot.ppc-unix.tgz
boot.sparc-unix.tgz
boot.x86-unix.tgz
boot.x86-win32.tgz
so it isn't possible at this time to support amd64 in any other way than in 32-bit mode.
