"This codebase has been taken over by Jim Pryor, 3.2 represents my last release!" (from http://apollo.backplane.com/FreeSrc/) "This is a continuation of Matt Dillon's beautifully minimalist dcron. [..] Matt has handed over maintainership of the main dcron branch, so all of yacron was merged into dcron 4.0." (from http://www.jimpryor.net/linux/dcron.html)
snapshot + pidfile patch can be found in my overlay: http://git.xnull.de/cgit/overlay/tree/sys-process/dcron
You can download my ebuild for version 4.4 here: http://junyx.breadfan.de/GentooEbuilds?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=dcron-4.4-ebuild.tbz2 (I could upload every single file here, too, if demanded.) I did include some more changes than only bump to current version: +files/crontab-4.4, +files/run-crons-dcron: Added new crontab file and run-crons-dcron script. +files/dcron-4.4-Makefile.patch, +files/dcron-4.4-pidfile.patch: Modified old dcron-3 patch files adding them with new file names. +files/dcron.confd-4.4, +files/dcron.init-4.4, +files/dcron.logrotate-4.4, +files/dcron.prune-cronstamps-4.4: Added new config, init and logrotate files for dcron v4. It's especially worth to give the new script 'run-crons-dcron' a go! This together with the modified /etc/crontab makes dcron-4 shine in my opinion.
What's the status of getting this pulled into the main package tree?
I vote for inclusion into the main portage tree. dcron-4.4 is stable for me (runs on two gentoo boxes, one hardened).
voting is done via the "votes" link, not by making comments ive added dcron-4.4 but using the common Gentoo cronbase still. this is known to work in a variety of conditions where as the frequency aspects of dcron are not. if that were to change, i'd be open to letting dcron manage its own timestamps. but that's fodder for a new bug.
