There have been quite a few reports on the forums of gnome-terminal running at a snails pace since an upgrade to 2.4. I found that if I set my background to a solid colour while gnome-terminal is using transparency it slows right down and constantly uses 60-80% CPU. Using a gradient is fine. Nautilus draws my desktop. Can anyone confirm this? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
I have noticed this as well. I was wondering why there was such a delay when marking some text. Removing transparency resolved this issue.
yep weirdish problem.. anyone care to look into this?
Can't reproduce here...The steps I took were changing background to transparent and then changing it back to solid...mem/cpu usage stayed the same. gnome-terminal-2.4.2

The issue here, as you can see in the upstream report, has to do with the vte package. A new revision, vte-0.11.10-r1, is in the tree, including a patch from Gnome's CVS repository to correct this problem. Please test. :) Thank you for your report.
