Description Nikolaj 2010-05-03 09:52:08 UTC
Upon starting KDE, plasma-desktop crashes immediately after the opening splash. The crash has been occuring over many versions of KDE.

This problem has been discussed in the forums here:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-811710.html

And in the KDE forums here:
http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=87378

In the KDE forums, I was asked to verify the existence of 2 icons, and I found that one was missing:
$KDEDIR/share/apps/desktoptheme/default/icons/battery.svgz
The person who pointed to this claimed it was a packaging error. The file is not anywhere else on the system (according to locate).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start X and KDE from the console.

Actual Results:
Plasma crashes immediately after the splash.

Expected Results:
The KDE desktop should have opened and been ready to use.

Comment 2 Nikolaj 2010-05-08 23:29:56 UTC
Problem was solved by recompiling qt-core, qt-gui and glib.

I believe it was glib that did it, because I have previously upgraded Qt from 4.5 to 4.6 during which I had the problem.
