Works really will without /etc/init.d/xdm in the default runlevel. You boot directly into the command line and there you have 2 options. 1. Start the accessibility application speakup modprobe speakup_soft /etc/init.d/espeakup start 2. Start KDE the K Desktop Environment /etc/init.d/xdm start May need a blank /home/gentoo/.kde4/share/config/phonondevicesrc I had to log out and then back in for sound to work while in KDE Reproducible: Always
