Description Shawn Begin 2010-04-30 14:43:38 UTC
During a routine emerge -uD world of an AMD64 system, the emerge puked at libxml2 and halted itself there.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.a emerge -uD world including libxml2-2.7.7 on AMD64 platform OR
1.b emerge libxml2-2.7.7 directly on AMD64 platform

Actual Results:
Libxml2 compiles fine, but portage refuses to complete the merge at install time. It complains of "poor programming practices" from the QA department

Expected Results:
Libxml2-2.7.7 should compile and install just fine.

Error from Portage:

Try reemerging zlib - there are problems with getting 1.2.5 ebuild right.
Comment 2 Shawn Begin 2010-05-01 03:10:51 UTC
Tried that. Circle dep!

QuietBox zlib # emerge zlib -av

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

[blocks B ] <dev-libs/libxml2-2.7.7 ("<dev-libs/libxml2-2.7.7" is blocking sys-libs/zlib-1.2.5-r2)

Comment 3 Rafał Mużyło 2010-05-01 20:34:48 UTC
 in one line 'emerge -1pv zlib libxml2'.
Comment 4 Shawn Begin 2010-05-02 01:45:50 UTC
Gah!

It's been so long since I've used it, I forgot about oneshot! I only have used it in very dire times, and this certainly qualifies as an odd time.

That made it shut up and merge zlib. No problems after that. Removed the two entries from the world file, as they're deps.

Thanks for the help, worksforme at this point, but I'll let you guys in the bug crew decide to close it or not.
