when trying to connect to a jabber-server and logging into an previously registered account, empathy (which ultimately uses telepathy-gabble) gives an error message saying "authentication failed". Nevertheless this works using other clients like gajim. Also this problem seems to be somewhat related to the server, that you will be connecting to (for me its jabjab.de, they use ejabberd). Fortunately, the BUG referenced in the URL seems to haven been solved in a newer version of telepathy-gabble. I fetched version telepathy-gabble-0.9.11 and tried things again and it works flawlessly now. So a possible solution would be to provide an updated ebuild for telepathy-gabble for the newest version 0.9.11, which should be done anyway. I post me ebuild here, if the responsible maintainer for this package would like to look at it and eventually submit it into the portage-tree.

Can you please upload a patch of your ebuild against the 0.8.8 one, to let the maintainer see quickly what you've changed in your ebuild? Thank you for your report.
