I've got a lot of free time now, and I'd like to give back to the gentoo community. I'm a former slackware / linux from scratch user, and gentoo has worked out very well for me. I have started to generate ebuilds for most of the software I install which isn't in portage. Some of these have been committed, and I'd like to volunteer to maintain these ebuilds as well as others. I'm a very skilled perl/C/C++ hacker with years of experience and good software engineering skills. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
avenj: can you follow up?
Yeah... someone wanna follow up? ;)
Which ebuilds?
Pretty much any of the one's I've submitted (look at my bug submission history) and any that really need help.
hello? Anyone home ;)
Jeremy, please come to irc.freenode.net and talk with spyderous or seemant or avenj (in that order :)
I'm actually there already... I'm eradicator. But unfortunately I'm away from my machine at the moment and won't be back until Monday night (PST). I'll talk to you tomorrow. --Jeremy
Wow. [eradicator] #gentoo-games #gentoo-help #gentoo-kernel #gentoo-laptop #gentoo-perl #gentoo-python #gentoo-security #gentoo-server #gentoo-dev #gentoo-portage #gentoo-bugs #gentoo
nice catch, fixed in portage.
Changing bug titles to comply with new developer bug title conformance standards, sorry for the spam.

I responded to the email as well, but figure I should post info here. I'm not dead or inactive... I've just cut back on the number of packages I maintain to a small handful (basically just pixie and maya for the moment). I'll probably be putting together a bump in maya soon now that I have the latest release DVD of it... and pixie hasn't seen a release upstream for a couple months, so that's why I haven't used cvs. As you notice, though... I've still be active on bugzilla. I'm mainly working for Apple now on X11, so I might start contributing X11 work to Gentoo/Alt as well
All right. Thanks for your quick replies. It's good to stay around even if other things force you to cut down the amount of your contributions. This bug can be closed.

Guys, I'm still here. I'm doing X11 stuff, just not that active in cvs.
Jeremy, I'm aware of how long you're a Gentoo developer and also of your contributions to X11 but the facts are that you haven't had a single commit in Gentoo for past 8 months and touched only a handful of bugs during that period. We usually retire people after 2 months of inactivity so you've got a huge slack from the retirement team already. I talked to Donnie about your amount of contributions to X11 in Gentoo, he doesn't seem to recall any. There's over 230 X bugs open in Gentoo, so it's not a project where a low amount of contributions would be justified. The way I see it, if you don't plan to heavily increase your activity within Gentoo during next couple of weeks, we will have no choice but to retire you from the team.
The X11 development I've been doing has been specifically for OSX, and I've been planning on bringing that into Gentoo/Alt when I get time for it. If you'd rather retire me, then fine. Just give me some time to switch over email addresses on different bugzillas and whatnot to my freedesktop.org account.
Well, we could retire you for now and reinstate later on when you find time for porting OSX stuff to Gentoo/Alt. You would just need to reopen the bug when you are willing to come back to the project and ask for getting recruited back. You wouldn't need a mentor, just passing your quizzes again. Also, don't worry about your accounts, your @gentoo.org mail will be forwarded to you for next few months unless you want otherwise.
Great, thanks. Could you have it forwarded to jeremyhu@freedesktop.org then, thanks.
Okay. Infra, please process eradicator's retirement. Jeremy, please just reopen this bug and let us know if you ever wish to rejoin Gentoo.
Could you remove me from the x11 and x11-drivers aliases please? Thanks.
Infra-processed for cvs/dev/lists/bugs/ldap. Sorry about the delay, was due to RL and having to also rewrite some LDAP scripts. planet, forums: your turn.
Retired on forums.
planet done
