>>> Failed to emerge app-emulation/libvirt-0.7.6-r1, Log file:

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge libvirt
2.
3.

Actual Results:
error "can't get BFD_RELOC_RVA relocation type"

Expected Results:
compile cleanly
this bug is related to bug http://bugs.gentoo.org/275073 but it still fails. if binutils is the problem libvirt should add binutils to it dependency to avoid the problematic use flag

an alternative sollution would be is that the ebuilds set ac_cv_prog_WINDRES=no so it compiles.

Comment 1 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-05-03 14:41:20 UTC
Diego,

Didn't you see something like this with windres?
Comment 2 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-06-16 18:25:51 UTC
Actually, the ebuild _already_ takes care of disabling windres. Care to provide a full build output and emerge -pv? If you're getting this out of an overlay it's your own problem.
Comment 3 vp 2010-06-16 20:15:43 UTC
emerge =libvirt-0.7.6-r1 -pv

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild UD] app-emulation/libvirt-0.7.6-r1 [0.8.1-r1] USE="avahi caps libvirtd lvm lxc network nfs nls parted phyp policykit python qemu sasl udev uml virtualbox -iscsi -lib32 -numa -openvz (-selinux) -xen" 0 kB

Total: 1 package (1 downgrade), Size of downloads: 0 kB

note i'm using 0.8.1-r1 now which works fine
0.7.6-r1 is still broken though

Comment 5 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-06-16 20:55:04 UTC
Well if 0.8.1 is working, I'd say we go with that. As Diego's suggests to improve their build system, along with some others were added to 0.8.1
Comment 6 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-06-16 20:55:18 UTC
upstream that is

fine with me, but maybe the 0.7.6 ebuild should be removed in that case.
Comment 8 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-06-19 01:48:09 UTC
Yeah we can do that. 0.8.2 is coming out soon and has a lot of fixes that I've needed for the office. I've already had to move the office to the 0.8.x series because 0.7.6/0.7.7 was memory leaking or having random errors that just don't happen with 0.8.x
Comment 9 Doug Goldstein (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-07-06 17:19:37 UTC
Removed.
