Description Alan 2003-10-20 18:25:16 UTC
Was building from scratch starting with a stage1 tarball from the pentium3 version of the 1.4 livecd. Bootstrap went fine, then I started emerge system. Xfree refused to compile, giving me "could not determine your kernel version".

My best guess to workaround was to emerge gentoo-sources, then emerge sytem again. Remains to be seen if that will work successfully. Should the install instructions should be modified to merge the kernel sources BEFORE emerge system?

I did search for other bugs using search terms xfree kernel, and didn't see any, but I may have missed one.

Hi Alan

I'm sorry to say that this bug didn't receive a lot of attention.

That said, Xfree isn't, shouldn't ever have been and doubtfully ever was, part of system.

If it was a problem, it's fixed by now. ;) Do 'emerge -ep system' and see for yourself that xfree isn't in the list.

I'm closing this as INVALID. Please reopen and jump on me if it's not.

Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
