Reopening as it is a source mirror. I thought it was a portage mirror.
I'm sending you some instructions on accessing our private distfiles mirror. Please update your scripts to point to this mirror, then post back here and I'll update out www mirrors page. Thanks.

> 3-23/4 * * * * for source (GMT+3) Doesn't that exclude a 00:00 sync? Also, the last sync was at "Tue, 21 Oct 2003 21:55:00 +0000". Current time is "Wed, 22 Oct 2003 13:32:37 +0000". That is 16 hours old. Anything unusal happening with the syncs?
Strange because the last update seems to be on "Oct 22 12:00 UTC" (current time is 14:33 UTC). I've looked in script and this is nothing wrong (it synchronizes with gentoo@ftp.oregonstate.edu::gentoo/). Anyway 3-23/4 == 3, 7, 11..., 23 so it is correct for my local time (GMT+3). Translated it means 0, 4, 8... 20 UTC However, I changed that because soon our local time will change to GMT+2. Now I run a script o a hourly basis, which will run rsync only when UTC hour is divisible by 4 ( hour % 4 == 0)
Current time is "Oct 23 18:23 UTC" and the last update of gentoo distfiles have ended at "Oct 23 16:04 UTC". I don't see any problem!
Sorry for this multiple replies, but the problem intrigues me. At "Wed Oct 22 20:00:53 UTC 2003" I saw with my own eyes how ftp://ftp.lug.ro/gentoo/distfiles/timestamp.x was updated from "Wed Oct 22 16:55:00 2003 UTC" to "Wed Oct 22 17:55:00 2003 UTC". The problem is on your server; its date must be incremented by 2 hours. Second issue is an omission that I've made. The source mirror is reachable via http too, so the links to the mirror are: ftp://ftp.lug.ro/gentoo http://ftp.lug.ro/gentoo Organisation name is Romanian Linux Users Group.
Could you sync from midnight local time? That helps reduce stain from the master mirror. I'm not sure what the difference is with the times. The current sync is reported as being "Wed, 22 Oct 2003 17:55:00 +0000" (from ftp://ftp.lug.ro/gentoo/distfiles/timestamp.chk, generated at :55 on the OSU machine). My current time is 00:48:43 +0000. +3 should make it 03:48 for the server? If thats the case, wouldn't it have sync'd again 48 minutes ago?
stain = strain
I went ahead and added the mirror to the page. Please make the switch from "UTC" to local time syncing. I've also subscribed <mrness@loginet.ro> to our gentoo-mirrors mailing list, where we announce and discuss things related to the gentoo system of mirrors. Thanks for supporting gentoo linux.
Current time: Thu Oct 23 05:44:38 UTC 2003 I've switched to local time. Now updates will occur at 1:00, 5:00, ...21:00 (UTC). I've looked at timestamp.chk on other mirrors. Not a single official mirror that I've looked has the timestamp.chk as the private source server has (Thu, 23 Oct 2003 03:55:00 +0000). Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't be "Thu, 23 Oct 2003 04:55:00 +0000" on the private server? I reckon that timestamp.chk is created on private server on a hourly basis, isn't it?
> I've looked at timestamp.chk on other mirrors. Not a single official mirror > that I've looked has the timestamp.chk as the private source server has They won't usually be the same. The key is that they are within 4 hours of the master. > Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't be "Thu, 23 Oct 2003 04:55:00 +0000" > on the private server? That is why I added the mirror to the web page. I ran into a similar confusion with the time syncs on source mirrors a while back. In the end, I figured out why it was like that, but forget. I was mainly concerned when the mirror appeared to be 16 or more hours behind. > I reckon that timestamp.chk is created on private > server on a hourly basis, isn't it? Yes, I believe it is. At :55 past the hour.
