A thought... Since they impose radically different system configuration requirements, the two main versions of sys-fs/evms should be in different slots. For example, on some systems, it is difficult or unreasonable to install user-space EVMS (v2). So for those systems, EVMS v1 must be installed if the operator intends to manage storage on a running system. On those systems, the oper- arators will forever fight the will of portage to upgrade EVMS. Slotting would solve this, no? Slotting would solve that, but the dependancies would get messy if the two cannot run at the same time? Can they?
evms 1 and 2 can not be slotted sanely, they stomp all over each other. If you want to stop portage upgrading evms to 2 do the following: mkdir -p /etc/portage echo ">sys-fs/evms-2" >> /etc/portage/package.mask Then portage will never try to upgrade to anything over evms-2.0.0
