This is an unstable testing version. Privoxy always crashes silently when (1) started as daemon and (2) the user is specified with the argument --user privoxy.privoxy Note that user privoxy and group privoxy exist, there is no problem with my configuration. Privoxy starts with the same arguments when --no-daemon is added and it works then as expected. When privoxy crashes, no log information is written to the logfile. Have you updated the configs? IIRC a new config-scheme has been introduced, which is incompatible with the old one. BTW, 3.0.15_x is obsolete, new stable release 3.0.16 exists and waits to be included into portage(see #308615).
Thanks for the reply. The problem occured after a new installation of privoxy, there was no previous old configuration. I have installed privoxy after openrc was installed. I had to do the following modifications to run privoxy as a daemon: 1) Remove the --user parameter in the runscript. 2) I am generating the directory /var/log/privoxy before starting privoxy with the runscript because privoxy also crashes when the log directory is missing. In my setup, the log directory is always missing at boot time since /var/log is mounted on tmpfs.
3.0.19 in stable now, please try with that version
