The version of media-libs/faac in portage is pretty old; it would make sense to
update it.  A snapshot of the current CVS is probably the best version to use.

Actually, based on comments on the faac forums (such as in this thread: http://www.audiocoding.com/phorum/read.php?f=1&i=3931&t=3931),
that version is quite out of date.  It would almost certainly be better to
go with the current CVS.

I had success with the cvs-snapshot 031026.
In fact, the current faac in portage is broken, it won't install faac.h into
/usr/include.
I suggest trying the next weekly snapshot (should be 031102) and put it on
the distfiles-mirrors.
Changing the ebuild accordingly is easy, I'll attatch my current ebuild here.

I'm going to add faac-1.23.1. Since no one seems to have been actively maintaining this, I can take it over..

faac-1.23.1 in portage is quite up to date -> fixed :)
