It would be nice if, for example, mozilla-firebird were able to REPLACE mozilla-firebird-bin, rather than be blocked by it, so that I can have a browser while I wait the 5 hours that it takes firebird to compile. This would be also be nice for other packages like openoffice. Also interesting would be if CVS versions would be able to displace release versions (mozilla being another excelent example) Basically I don't see why certain packages BLOCK packages, forcing you to unmerge them manually. It would be neat if I could issue a --unblock or something, which would automatically unmerge the offending package after the replacement is installed Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
file bugs for specific packages ... blocking is used in different ways, some of which should not but unmerged ... but i see your point in mozilla-firebird vs mozilla-firebird-cvs
