Stabilize sci-libs/gdal-1.6.3-r1.

AMD64:

sci-libs/gdal-1.6.3-r1  USE="curl geos jpeg mysql png postgres ruby threads -debug -doc -ecwj2k -fits -gif -gml -hdf -hdf5 -jpeg2k -netcdf -odbc -ogdi -perl -python -sqlite"

Compiles fine and mapnik (which uses gdal) still renders tiles :D
Since it is a headless server I could not test any gui programs.

Testing on x86: 
-) Misses a dependency (bug 318825) for USE="ecwj2k"
-) Conflicting useflags should not make the ebuild die. Please replace this block by actually favoring hdf5:

The same code is in stable sci-libs/gdal-1.6.1, so no need to delay stabilization.

Maybe true for the 'beautification' but IMHO a missing stable dependency blocks stabilization.

Okay, I moved and changed the test for hdf4 and netcdf, but I don't understand the "misses a dependency" in comment #3.  Is there something wrong with:

Sorry, I just meant that bug 318825 is a dependency that was not there when I wrote my comment. No it just means that we need to stable sci-libs/libecwj2 together with this one.

`repoman full` doesn't treat it as missing dependency.
Anyway sci-libs/libecwj2 doesn't have any keywords on ppc, ppc64 and sparc, but sci-libs/gdal-1.6.1 is stable on these architectures, so I suggest package.use.masking of "ecwj2k" USE flag on these architectures.

Hmm, shouldn't this be considered a bug in repoman then? I thought by definition that a stable package can only depend on other stable packages...

Also for x86 if ecwj2k is not ready to go stable.

So, depending on the status of sci-libs/libecwj2, we can wait for it to stabilize, or push gdal stable and do the the use.mask thing.
