Description Roman Gruber 2010-04-15 12:03:57 UTC
Ok. These maps are an unofficial enhancement. Its legal to add custom maps.

See FAQ of http://maps.el-pl.org/node/7

Quote of the link above:

What about those maps? - First thing first: Eternal-Lands client uses bitmap files as maps for lands, caves and other places you can find in game. The original maps are simple, done well, but without any specific details. Also, the original EL Client contains only few maps, and most of them shows only the "outsides". There's - as far as I remember - only one map for a cave. If you enter any other cave it will be very hard for you to find exits, minerals other corridors or paths. All those things are clearly showed on unofficial maps.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. download Mappack_v3.0_Hi-Res_BS.zip from: http://maps.el-pl.org/node/173
Title: Mappack 3.0 Full, Hi-Res, All maps
2. unzip Mappack_v3.0_Hi-Res_BS.zip
3. cp *.* /usr/share/games/eternal-lands/maps

Actual Results:
It would be nice, with a useflack bloodsucker_maps to get these maps included. Almost no cave has a map in this game. With these maps, maps are better, have a higher resolution and also caves have now a map. An enhanced game expierence.

There is also sound available from the game developer itself, but it doesnt work for me :(

Pls be so kind and add this stuff with a useflag. Else i have to put it each time manually into the folder. Thx.

Tested and works on amd64.

Thanks for the suggestion, assigning it to maintainers.

Let me research it a little from a licensing and terms-of-service point of view before I give it any kind of official support. I agree that almost nobody uses the default maps, but for whatever reason they are the default. I may post a question on the EL forums to see if there are any strong opinions - in general Gentoo tries to play nice with upstream...

At the very least the BS maps will need to have a redistribution license, or a stable place to obtain them from - that is purely a practical concern. This suggestion actually has come up before.

I for one wouldn't mind having to deal with all the file collisions every time I update mine... :)

Good work, Thx

So far, there is also a sound pack available from the EL devs, but its a separte package, i have tried to put it into my el, but it doesnt work el.

Ok, I did a quick check and sound and music seem to work fine.

Did you emerge eternal-lands-data with the sound and music USE flags set?
Comment 5 Roman Gruber 2010-05-12 21:04:24 UTC
yes, i didnt see, that there was another package related to the game, sorry.

These maps are working great. 6 weeks without any problems here.

Also my old guild and my new guild, more than 100 people are using these maps on different platforms without problems.

I hope they will be included soon.

Ok, eternal-lands-data now takes USE flag bloodsuckermaps. Turn it on and it will install the maps.

Enjoy!
