radeon.modeset with ~86 xf86-video-ati-6.13.0 seems to work okay except it breaks certain graphics effects like blender's menus. They aren't black like they were a couple ati/mesa versions ago, but they're very slow or something. They don't draw correctly. blender is 2.49b I think Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
There's also occasional corruption on kde window bars and icons.
is still a problem with updated drivers?
I have seen another manifestation of probably this bug: Running a digital oscilloscope program (bitscope DSO 1.2.1), with xf86-video-ati-6.13.0 the signal curve pixels stay forever and "accumulate", instead of being always erased and redrawn. Switching back to xf86-video-ati-6.12.7 fixed the problem. I am using xorg-server-1.7.6, mesa-7.7.1, kernel 2.6.33-gentoo-r1.
This is an upstream issue.
It worked once upon a time, but its been broken in different ways the past, maybe five updates.
I used to have these problems with blender and older x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati as well. Now with the current stable x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati-6.14.0 the menus work fine. I only checked the "classic" driver, not the gallium one (because of other issues with the latter). @Peter: Do you still see this issue with a newer driver version?
I don't know. The ati driver stopped working for me again in the past month or so. glxinfo says its using the Gallium softpipe. I have no idea what's wrong with it. I posted to the gentoo forums but haven't heard back yet, maybe I'll open another bug for that if I can't figure out how to fix it. But in the event that I get hardware acceleration working again, then I'll check Blender and let you know.
Great news! This looks fixed finally. xf86-video-ati 6.14.2 and blender menus seem to be okay. The menus are a little slow to draw but that could be something else and they're completely usable. Thanks!
