from changelog: "marking 2.5.7-r3 stable, it is a release from the development branch, but has proven stable in practice and has some important internationalisation features (among other things) missing from the stable branch."
Yes, it is a release from the development branch, but that doesn't imply instability. It has been available to ~x86/~alpha/~sparc users since July, and has had excellent feedback and no bug reports. The stable branch is still supported, you can install it using portage atoms.. $ emerge =x11-wm/fvwm-2.4* Some other examples of `development` releases that are considered stable: net-mail/mutt-1.5.4-r1 app-cdr/cdrtools-2.01_alpha14 net-ftp/proftpd-1.2.9_rc2 app-admin/syslog-ng-1.6.0_rc3-r1 Thanks for the report, let us know if it gives you any trouble :)
There is a very annoying (to me) bug in 2.5.*. See http://www.fvwm.org/cgi-bin/fvwm-bug/incoming?id=1291.
Yes, I saw your post to the mailing list..where one of the developers explained it. I realise it's probably not what you're looking for but if you keep the title as a TiledPixmap and use Gradient on the border, you can get pretty close to your old style. eg http://dev.gentoo.org/~taviso/borders.png If you think there is something I can do to help, please open a new bug and assign it to me :)
Evgeny, Just noticed you are not in the CC list, please read comment #4 :)
Thanks for your comments. In fact, until I read it, I hadn't noticed my bug report (to the fvwm bug tracking thingy) generated any reply (I wouldn't post to the gentoo's tracker otherwise - given it's considered a "feature"). BTW, I don't understand what flickering the poster of http://www.hpc.uh.edu/fvwm/archive/0405/msg00373.html talks about. I see no change in this respect. Interestingly, I've always stated fvwm can emulate any advanced feature present in other WMs. It appears I'm wrong - until 2.7 at least...
Created attachment 32782 [details, diff] Patch for the border decoration problem Thanks to the openess of the source, I could fix the bug (don't want to call it a feature) myself. Now ready to explore new features of 2.5.8. I'd be grateful is someone could enlighten me on why such a change would cause a flickering...
