volti is a neat pygtk program sitting in the system tray, and displaying and changing the status of your audio volume. features from the homepage: * no pulseaudio, gstreamer, phonon etc. only alsa is needed * uses external mixer that you can choose, it goes nicely with gnome-alsamixer * left click opens volume scale (slider) * scroll wheel on tray icon changes volume, increment in percents is configurable * you can configure middle click to toggle 'mute' or 'show mixer' * nice tooltip with card and volume info * support for multimedia keys on keyboard * support desktop notifications on keys events * control volti from command line or bind keys within your window manager The developer provides an ebuild within the package itself. Thought it carries the hal use-flag for multimedia-keys events, it works as well with xlib for that functionality, or even without xlib (by using volti-remote script called from your favorite window-manger)
