Logitech have created a patch for faad which enables streaming of internet radio in aac format. The standard faad does not allow this. Logitech have done this to enable aac internet radio streaming in their "Squeezeboxserver" open source media streaming software. There is a gentoo ebuild for squeezeboxserver, which would benefit from this enhancement. This is a request to have this patch added to the media-libs/faad2 ebuild, I guess to be enabled with a use flag as it's not in the standard faad. The Logitech patch is available here: http://svn.slimdevices.com/repos/slim/7.5/trunk/vendor/faad2/seeking+alac.patch I believe the squeezeboxserver ebuild is now in the official portage: media-sound/squeezeboxserver I am not affiliated to Logitech in any way. I am just a gentoo and squeezeboxserver user. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Attempt to stream aac radio using squeezeboxserver (e.g. BBC iplayer streams using the BBC iplayer plugin). Actual Results: Using the unpatched gentoo faad, aac radio does not stream in squeezeboxserver. Expected Results: Using the patched faad, aac radio streams correctly in squeezeboxserver. A workaround is to copy the faad binary bundled with the squeezeboxserver tarball over the gentoo faad.
I would support this as well - I produce the media-sound/squeezeboxserver ebuild. Due to bug#251494 I'm discouraged from bundling anything that's available in ebuilds (for good reasons that I understand), but it does leave my hands tied when it comes to problems like this.
The patch needs to go to faad's bug tracking system at sourceforge for upstream inclusion, you won't see it in Portage before that
No info provided if this went to faad2 upstream at sourceforge or not, therefore it won't be landing into Portage. Reopen once it has been pushed.
